With less than a month before classes start, it is time to start prepping for a new chapter in your life.

College life versus high school life is completely different. For many freshmen, the transition from high school senior to a college freshman is difficult. However, a successful transition is possible.

Here are my three tips to a smooth transition:

1. BALANCE YOUR ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL LIFE.

While being in college is fun, the 24/7 party life is not. Be careful with how you spend your weekends. If you come into college with the idea that it is one giant party, it can greatly impact your academics. Learn to balance school life and hanging out with your friends. Understand that academics are your priority, do not lose sight of your goal for one party.

2. STAY ORGANIZED.

Staying organized is the key to being successful in college. You need to keep track of assignments and test dates. You may have heard that in college your professors “won’t hold your hands.” This is true. Forgetting to turn in an assignment can greatly impact your grade. Being organized will decrease the stress of classes and improve grades.

3. KEEP YOUR DOOR OPEN.

This makes meeting your floor much easier. When you have your door open people are more likely to introduce themselves, and it is the easiest way to make friends.
