Mike Emmert ’75 developed an eye for business at Illinois State. Arriving in 1971, Emmert saw the value of an accounting degree and immersed himself in the University and its programs. Emmert spent four years developing his background in accounting, business, and finance and was immediately able to begin leveraging his skills as an auditor and system design consultant for Arthur Andersen. Today, Emmert serves as Managing Director of the Disputes Investigation group for Navigant Consulting, Inc., where he provides accounting, finance, and other areas of expertise to corporations and their outside law firms in the resolution of litigation, other business disputes, or regulatory investigations.

“Illinois State was very good to me. It was a fine institution for me to obtain an advanced education and to develop the skills that were necessary for me to be successful in accounting and the consulting business,” Emmert said.

Emmert’s clients aren’t the only ones to benefit from his expertise. Emmert shares his knowledge with his alma mater through the College of Business Advisory Board and by returning to campus as a guest speaker in classrooms.

“Helping the colleges benefit from the experience and skills you have developed during a career is a natural return that everyone should focus on,” Emmert said.

In addition to sharing his time with Illinois State, Emmert has also made a planned gift to help ensure the College of Business’ continuing success.

“The education and life lessons that I received over my four years at ISU provided the foundation for my professional success,” Emmert said. “Contributing financial support so the College of Business can achieve its vision and mission is an important way to give back to the institution where my success really began. In addition to making an immediate impact for the college during my life, establishing a deferred gift through my will ensures in part that the critical, longer-term needs of the college will also be satisfied.”
