On February 16, the Illinois State University’s women’s basketball team will once again show its support for the fight against women’s cancers by wearing pink and raising money for the Play 4Kay initiative. This will be the fourth annual Play 4Kay game hosted by Illinois State women’s basketball.
In addition to seeing the basketball team in pink, attendees are encouraged to wear pink and help Illinois State raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
About Play 4Kay
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is committed raising money for scientific research, helping the underserved, and unifying people for a common cause in the fight against women’s cancers. Since 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised more than $2.5 million to support women’s cancer research, and last year alone, Illinois State University contributed $21,000! To find out more about Play 4Kay, visit www.goredbirds.com/play4kay.
As a part of this special day, all cancer survivors and those currently with cancer can RSVP to receive up to three tickets to the pregame social and game! The pregame social is hosted by the Mennonite College of Nursing and the Student Nurses Association and will be held in the Legend’s Room at Redbird Arena from 1–2 p.m. If you would like to attend the pregame social, please RSVP by Wednesday, February 12.
The game starts at 2:05 p.m., and the Redbirds will be wearing pink jerseys and shoes in honor of all cancer patients when they take on the Southern Illinois Salukis. During halftime, those individuals in attendance who have or had cancer will be recognized for their strength and courage.
New this year, the Illinois State Athletics will be selling luminaries to honor cancer survivors and those who have died of cancer. Fans can purchase their luminaries at women’s basketball games leading up to the Play 4Kay game in honor of family and friends. These luminaries will be on display at the Play 4Kay game.
RSVP, donate money to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, and stay up to date with the latest news about Play 4Kay.
Additional guest tickets and patron tickets can be purchased for just $1 from the Illinois State Athletics Ticket Office online at www.goredbirds.com, by phone at (309) 438-8000, or in person at one of the Athletics Ticket Offices located at Redbird Arena and Hancock Stadium, which are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
