We’re highlighting the link between teaching and technology the week of February 10 at the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology. CTLT instructional staffers will offer two different ways to engage students.
The first, SoftChalk, allows you to build visually stunning, interactive lessons that can be hosted online through ReggieNet. The second is our PowerPoint workshop, when you’ll learn how to take your presentation from yawn-eliciting to exciting, from cluttered to coherent. Plus, a new Teaching Excellence Series officially begins with a look at how you can connect your students with the help they need through the University’s Student Counseling Services.
Finally, a quick reminder: Monday, February 10, is your last day to apply for the Office of Research and Sponsored Program’s Building a Successful Grant Proposal: Writing Persuasively workshop, which will be held March 14 as part of CTLT’s Spring Institute.
Teaching Excellence Series: It Takes A Campus
Student Counseling Services
1–2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 11
College life can be overwhelming for some students. Student Counseling Services provides a number of services to assist students so they can be academically successful. Faculty and staff may be the first to notice when a student needs help dealing with the pressures of school. In this session we will discuss how faculty can approach and motivate students to seek help. No registration is required.
SoftChalk Lesson Builder
9 a.m.–noon Wednesday, February 12
Looking for a creative, new way to engage students? SoftChalk can help! This program lets you easily create engaging, interactive web lessons. You will learn to create interactive learning games such as customizable flashcards, image labeling, matching games, crosswords and more. SoftChalk Lessons are easily imported into ReggieNet. Technology courses are taught in a computer lab with limited seating, so registration is required. This course is also available April 8.
Early-Career Professional Development Circle
Active Learning
Noon–1 p.m. Wednesday, February 12 or Thursday, February 13
You know you’re teaching, but are your students learning? If you’re worried they’re just going through the motions but not retaining important information, this session can help! Come one day or the other. No registration required.
PowerPoint
1–4 p.m. Thursday, February 13
Get an overview on this presentation software’s basic tools and functions. You will learn to work with text, images, slide layouts, backgrounds, slide transitions and more. This class is suitable for those who are entirely new to PowerPoint or for those who would like a refresher. Technology courses are taught in a computer lab with limited seating, so registration is required.
