Stop by the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) Friday, August 22, for some professional development … and a few slices of pizza! It’s a great way to celebrate the start of the fall semester and the end of the first week of classes. Come share your back-to-school stories with colleagues, meet the CTLT staff, and join us for special 15-minute micro-workshops.
The 2014 Fall Kickoff runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CTLT’s Resource Commons, located at 301 South Main Street. No registration is necessary. Just drop on by for any or all of these events:
11 a.m.—Sign up for CTLT fall workshops and short courses
11:30 a.m.—Fostering a Learning Community: So you’ve had your first class and did the introductions and icebreakers. So now how do you keep building community throughout the semester? Learn how to create a true learning community in your class. (Dana Karraker, CTLT faculty development coordinator)
12 p.m.—Pizza!
12:30 p.m.—Your Classroom Technology Policy: Research shows that students respond better when instructors set clear guidelines about the use of mobile technology—laptops, tablets, and smartphones—in the classroom. In this brief workshop, we’ll explore recent studies on students’ attitudes to help you craft your own classroom technology policy. (Jim Gee, CTLT communication coordinator)
1:30 p.m.—Lesson Builder: A few months ago, we added an exciting new tool to ReggieNet. Lesson Builder lets you create learning modules your students can access online and at any time. This micro-workshop will explore ways to encourage student to interact with each other. (Charles Bristow, CTLT instructional designer)
