The 2014 Homecoming theme was “Rally The Redbirds.” Several different events took place within the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department that supported this year’s theme.
The Thursday before Homecoming week, several students worked together to decorate the Eckelmann-Taylor Speech and Hearing Clinic waiting room for the traditional campus decorating contest. The following day, students gathered to participate in a pep rally, in order to “rally the Redbirds” during the judging of the clinic waiting room.
During the week of Homecoming, the department entered two different teams into the Redbird Rumble. The Rumble is a fun competition full of various relay-like games that is a custom among Illinois State’s students. One team was made of students and the other was for participating faculty. The student team made it into the finals this year!
As part of the Homecoming festivities, former first lady Linda Bowman was the honored distinguished alumna this year. The department held a breakfast in order to honor Bowman. Several students and faculty attended and shared stories of Bowman’s success and contributions since she has been at Illinois State University. After dedicating nearly 30 years to the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Bowman decided to retire as clinic director. Over the years, she has held several positions and contributed to the department in numerous respects.
All in all, Homecoming 2014 was very successful and enjoyed by all. We look forward to next year!
