The College of Education’s own Lynn Steffen ’75, M.S. ’84, will be honored with the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Distinguished Service Award at the Founders Day Convocation to be held at 2 p.m. February 19 in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center. Steffen serves as the associate director of clinical experiences in the Cecilia J. Lauby Teacher Education Center.
Throughout her 18 years of service to Illinois State University, she has become known to colleagues across campus as the foremost authority on much of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into keeping the largest teacher preparation program in the state up-to-date.
Steffen’s responsibilities include serving as Illinois State’s liaison to the Illinois State Board of Education, ensuring compliance with state and national requirements; data collection, analysis, and dissemination related to program improvement and accreditation; and leading the transition from the mainframe to the Student Information System.
“While I have known Lynn for many years, it is within the last 20 months that I have had the opportunity to directly work with her, but most importantly learn from her,” said Deborah A. Garrahy, professor and director at the Cecilia J. Lauby Teacher Education Center. “We are all indebted to her professionalism, ethics, and collegiality. Illinois State University has truly benefitted from Mrs. Steffen’s years of service to the teacher education community.”
Steffen’s work makes a positive impact on countless students, alumni, and colleagues. Tell us how this year’s A/P Distinguished Service Award recipient made a difference for you by leaving a message in the comment section.
