Susan Sprecher will tackle social interactions at the monthly series talk from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

Sprecher, a Distinguished Professor of sociology at Illinois State, will present The Study of Get-Acquainted Interactions Using the Social Interaction Paradigm: What is Happening Down on the Second Floor of Schroeder and How Can We Involve More Sociology Students? at noon, Friday, March 20 in Schroeder Hall, room 212.

 

Sprecher holds joint appointments with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of Psychology at Illinois State. Her research, which has spanned more than 30 years, focuses on the social psychology of relationships, including attraction and relationship initiation, love, sexuality and the influence of social networks.

 

She was the editor of Personal Relationships and has co-edited several books and handbooks, including The Handbook of Sexuality and Close Relationships, The Handbook of Relationship Initiation, The Science of Compassionate Love and the Encyclopedia of Human Relationships. She has published more than 100 articles and chapters.

 

Sprecher received undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been actively involved in various positions for the International Association for Relationship Research.
