What would happen if we changed our focus from assessment of learning to assessment that actually helps students learn? Research shows that formative assessment has the power to significantly improve student learning. This workshop highlights the benefits of using formative assessment and explores various assessment strategies. Registration is required.

Creating Online Course Content
Monday, June 15 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Well-designed, effective content is essential for your online and blended courses. With so many options available, creating media can be a challenge. In this workshop, learn to create interactive online modules, PowerPoint presentations with voiceover, and screencasts. We will also discuss the best ways to integrate video resources in your ReggieNet course site. Registration is required.

The Impact of Narratives on Student Learning
Tuesday, June 16 • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Everyone loves a good story. Learn how to harness and hone the power of narrative to help students learn. Engage in small group activities and roundtable discussions about current research in narrative methods that improve student learning. You will assess how to organize lessons in narrative form, regardless of the complexity of course materials. Each participant will leave the workshop with a rough-sketch of a narrative lesson in hand. Facilitator: Daniel Breyer. Registration is required.

OneDrive and Office 365 for Mobile
Tuesday, June 16 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Premium features found in these apps are now available to Illinois State faculty and staff for free as part of the Office 365 software suite. This workshop will get you started working with the mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. You will also explore OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, also free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how this service within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA. Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop.

Get an introduction to this page layout editor, including a tour of basic tools. Learn to place and move graphics and text to create an aesthetically pleasing format for printing.

Beyond PowerPoint: Exploring Presentation Software
Thursday, June 18 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Time to move beyond endless lists of bullet points! Many instructors have embraced PowerPoint as a presentation tool, but it is not always the best option for engaging students and explaining the big picture. In this half-day workshop you will get an overview of Prezi and other alternatives to PowerPoint, and explore the pros and cons of each in various teaching scenarios. You don’t need to be a computer person to benefit from this workshop—it’s open to instructors of all skill levels.
