Jim Voss ’64 didn’t leave the pool after serving as co-captain of Illinois State’s 1964 swim team.
He served 33 years as a boys high school swim coach and PE teacher. The pool at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is named in his honor. There 25 years, his teams took 15 state and three national championships. Voss won the most state team titles in the history of all Iowa sports and was state coach of the year eight times.
National Coach of the Year in 1994, he coached three Olympians and is in a state and national coaches swimming Hall of Fame.
