With the help of the Dean of Students Office, senior social work major Leah Rolando has been working to bring a national conference to Illinois State University’s campus. To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) will be hosting the MOVE: Focus Conference on Saturday, February 13, at 9 a.m. in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center.

This one-day workshop is led by professional counselors, while attendees explore issues such as depression, anxiety, and suicide. Aaron Moore, a mental health counselor, will be the featured guest speaker. Moore became involved in the organization in 2006, and has spoken to colleges and groups internationally.

“I worked with many units within the Dean of Students Office to make this event possible,” Rolando said. “Everyone has been extremely supportive and willing to make this happen.” Given Rolando’s involvement with the Dean of Students Office, she knew it would be a great resource. Rolando specifically mentioned the assistance from Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Art Munin, Student Activities and Involvement, and Marketing.

The goal of the workshop is to help create a culture and climate of hope and healing for those struggling in their homes, work, and schools. The workshop is free for all participants, but registration is required on a first-come, first-serve basis. Rolando hopes for attendance to reach around 100 participants.
