As graduation is approaching, Illinois State wants to make sure all students are recognized and acknowledged for their contributions to the University.
This year, the University will host its second annual Lavender Graduation, its first Nuestros Logros, and the fourth Umoja ceremony.
Lavender Graduation
The Lavender Graduation, Celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) and Allied Graduates ceremony will take place Wednesday, April 13, from 6–8 p.m. in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. Lavender Graduation creates a safe space for students in celebrating the completion of degrees and certificates with the support of families, faculty, and staff. Regardless of what achievements have been contributed to the LGBTQ community, any graduating student is welcome to participate. This ceremony provides a positive last experience for LGBT students and allies before they leave Illinois State.

Nuestros Logros
To celebrate the achievements of the Latino community at Illinois State, Diversity Advocacy has organized Nuestro Logros, which means “our achievements.” This ceremony will be held April 17 from 4–6 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center. Family and friends of the graduates are welcome to come and enjoy Latino music and cuisine, and celebrate the culture of our students. Umoja
The Umoja Black Graduation Celebration will be held May 5 in the Center for Performing Arts for all students graduating in the fall, summer, and spring of 2016. This celebration was born from the hearts and minds of African-American students, faculty, alumni, and staff. The event serves as a unifying symbol of perseverance in the recognition of a shared socio-cultural, political, and educational history.
