QUEERtalks returns to campus with lunchtime speakers dedicated to the scholarship of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)/queer studies. The talks will include Q&A sessions.
On March 18, S. Moon Cassinelli will present “Queer/ing Genealogies: Trauma, Desire, and the Child in Alexander Chee’s EDINBURGH” at noon in Schroeder Hall, room 236.
Cassinelli is a doctoral candidate in English at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with work predominantly focused on issues of citizenship, national belonging, militarization, transnationalism/al adoption, and race.
On April 15, Jafari Allen will present “Queer Afropolis: ‘There’s a Disco Ball Between Us’” at 1 p.m. in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center.
Allen is an associate professor of African American studies, and anthropology; and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program director of Graduate Studies at the University of Miami. He is the author of the critical ethnography of race, gender, sexuality, and revolution titled ¡Venceremos?: The Erotics of Black Self-Making in Cuba. He will be the keynote speaker for the 21st annual Women’s and Gender Studies Symposium.
