Civic Engagement Day is April 21. The Illinois State University campus will celebrate the day with an event from 2-4 p.m. in the Circus Room of the Bone Student Center.

Students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to discuss activities and projects across campus. A formal presentation will be at 3:15 p.m. The program is sponsored by the University’s chapter of the American Democracy Project (ADP), and is free and open to the public.

“The event will highlight some of the efforts keeping our community civically engaged,” said Catherine Poffenbarger, an instructor for the civic engagement and responsibility minor at Illinois State.

“We’re encouraging everyone to share the work they have done throughout the year and help foster future partnerships,” said Associate Professor of Politics and Government Noha Shawki, who is also the ADP advisor. Shawki also noted creating civically minded students is one of the cornerstones of the University’s strategic plan, Educating Illinois.
