The Illinois Board of Nursing appointed H. Catherine Miller, associate dean of academics at Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing as the vice-chair for a two-year term at the July 8, 2016 meeting. The vice-chair assists the board chairperson and conducts Board of Nursing meetings in the absence of the chair.
“I am honored to be selected for this appointment,” said Miller. “Being part of this board has provided opportunities for me to make contributions to the discipline of nursing and contribute to public safety through implementation of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.”
Miller was a member of the Board of Nursing from July 2009 through October 2010 as the associate degree education representative. In December 2014, she was appointed as the baccalaureate education representative, and also serves on the education sub-committee.
The Illinois Board of Nursing has 13 members appointed by the governor upon the recommendation of the secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and is made up of four advanced practice nurses, three nursing educator representatives, two registered nurses, one licensed practical nurse, one nursing administrator, one nurse and one public member.
The Board’s duties include making recommendations on the adoption of revisions to the rules and regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of the Act, conducting hearings and disciplinary conferences upon charges calling for discipline of a licensee, and recommending approval or denial of nursing education programs.
