The week of October 17–22 marked the inaugural Torch Week sponsored by the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Torch Week was open to all registered student organizations (RSOs) to participate in a variety of events throughout the week to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. These events included a banner competition, coin wars, and Pie a President.
“This was a great opportunity to give back to our local community and collaborate with other organizations on campus,” Vice President of Programming Julian Garcia said. IFC’s goal was to not only raise awareness about Special Olympics, but also allow organizations on campus the opportunity to collaborate and build relationships.
This year, IFC raised over $1,000 for Special Olympics and hopes to raise even more money next year. In addition, the men would like to include the other affiliated Fraternity and Sorority Life councils, the College Panhellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council, as well as increase the number of RSOs involved.
