Whether it was the record-breaking turnout at Illinois State University Black Colleagues Association (ISUBCA) events or friends telling the Homecoming committee how good of a time they had, it is clear that ISUBCA knows how to put the fun into Homecoming. Those that missed Homecoming, or just want to reminisce, have the opportunity to view all the photos from the weekend.
This year Homecoming kicked off with friendly competition at ISUBCA game night. Whether it was Bid Whist or Spades, Redbirds brought their “A” game and had some fun while doing it. The night was filled with games, music, dancing, drinks, and appetizers. Game night was better attended than ever before with more than 230 alumni and friends in attendance, but was only a warm up for what was to come.
The next morning started off early with the Homecoming tailgate and parade. Unlike some Homecomings in recent memory, the weather was perfect and the tailgate was packed with Redbirds from all generations. Despite the Redbirds losing the game to Youngstown State, the tailgate went strong and returning alumni were the true winners of the day.
If the tailgate wasn’t enough, the ISUBCA tailgate after party had something for everyone. ISUBCA had two DJs for attendees’ listening and dancing pleasure, playing everything from hip hop to house music. So whether guests wanted to dance all night or just preferred food and drinks among friends, ISUBCA had their back.
Now ask anyone what the highlight of the weekend was, and they will say it was the scholarship brunch. It was a chance to hear 13 of Illinois State’s most deserving students tell why their BCA scholarship is important to them and to thank all those present or not for their support. The stories these scholarship recipients shared were amazing and made this a highpoint of the weekend. On top of all this inspiration and thanks, over $11,000 was raised at the brunch for scholarships administered by ISUBCA! Please remember ISUBCA can use continued support as it tries to provide more scholarships to deserving students.
ISUBCA’s board of directors and Homecoming committee hope all that attended Homecoming 2016 enjoyed the Redbird experience. To continue to help plan for future Homecomings, alumni are encouraged to share thoughts and feedback.
