The February Dean of Students Office student spotlight is Elena Pivek, a junior communications sciences and disorders major from Lisle. Pivek found her niche in the Leadership and Community Connections (LCC) unit of the Dean of Students Office when she first participated in Camp LEAD her freshman year.
Since then, Pivek has become a leader within LCC by becoming a Camp LEAD facilitator, participating in LeaderShape, and by participating in three Alternative Break (AB) trips. This year, Pivek will serve as a bus leader on Alternative Spring Break.
“The mixture of civic engagement and developing my own leadership skills is what I love most about AB,” Pivek said. “I love not only improving the communities around me, but improving myself too.”
Being involved in so many different programs at Illinois State, specifically those within the Dean of Students Office, has boosted Pivek’s resume and has motivated her to stay involved. While school and academics are always her first priority, Pivek says that her experiences with the Dean of Students Office have truly been an added bonus to her time at Illinois State.
