Illinois State University’s American Democracy Project will air the Presidential Inauguration from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Friday, January 20, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. The event is free and open to the campus community.

Fun facts about the inauguration ceremony:

  • 1789 was the date of the first Presidential Inauguration.
  • 135 were the number of works in President George Washington’s inaugural address.
  • Inaugural balls were suspended, or billed as “charity balls” from 1921 until Harry Truman brought them back in 1945.
  • The only inaugurations not held in Washington D.C. were in 1817 and 1945, due to the War of 1812 and World War II, respectively.
