Are you an aspiring wizard stuck in a muggle world? If so, Illinois State has the perfect registered student organization (RSO) for you. This month’s RSO spotlight is the Quidditch Club, also known as the Illinois State Firebirds.
Formed in 2010, the Firebirds are a coed athletic organization inspired by the Harry Potter series. To keep with the Harry Potter theme, members are sorted into different houses and have “broomsticks” made out of PVC pipes. Although this club is all about fun and games, the team plays competitively and will even be traveling to Florida for nationals this semester.
For sophomore Crystal Jones, Quidditch has not only brought her friends, but a family as well: “Not only are my teammates my best friends on and off the pitch. I was attracted to the openness and the diversity this team has.”
Any Illinois State student can join the Firebirds, even if they are not a Harry Potter fan. Those who are interested in joining should contact Crystal Jones to learn more about practice and tournaments.
