The Illinois State University Spanish Club’s annual event Fiesta Latina is an end of the year celebration for the club, the Bloomington-Normal community, and other Illinois State faculty, staff and students.

Spanish Club prides itself in bringing awareness of Hispanic culture and Spanish language to campus, and this is one way it does just that. To members, the April 8 event was something to look forward to all year long, making their constant dedication and weekly conversation hour visits even more worth it.

“It is a celebration for us executive board members for a year of hard work, it is a celebration of Hispanic culture, and it is a way for students and the community to come together and just have fun,” said Spanish Club Vice President Justin Chhoeun. “I think this event is crucial for our students because it gives them a taste of the rich cultures neighboring the U.S. to surround them with music, food, and people that they normally are not exposed to.”

Fiesta Latina brings together students from Illinois State and its surrounding community, something that makes Fiesta Latina stand out as a community and family event.

“I think this is a great element that Fiesta Latina offers that many other student-arranged events do not,” said Spanish Club Public Relations Officer Stephanie Rodriguez. “The community and students celebrating together helps bridge the gap that can sometimes occur between those who live here full time and those who are here during the school year. This opportunity allows for both groups to come together in harmony and enjoy a fun night.”

Fiesta Latina, now in its 11th year, will continue to be around for a very long time.
