Quintin Hecht ’07, Au.D. ’11, received his bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Audiology from Illinois State University. After graduation from the doctoral program, Hecht served as an audiologist for the United States Air Force at the 59th Surgical Specialties Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, the same location where he completed his fourth-year audiology residency.
Hecht has served the profession in several ways. He has provided audiology evaluations and fitting of hearing aids to underserved populations in Belize on a humanitarian mission, spent three years overseeing the Hearing Conservation Program for the entire U.S. Air Force, and served as an adjunct faculty member at the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine and as a Council for Accreditation of Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) Professional Supervisor workshop instructor.
Hecht has presented at several conferences, including the American Academy of Audiology, National Hearing Conservation Association, Joint Defense and Veterans Affairs Audiology, and the Acoustical Society of America meetings. He has published articles for CAOHC’s Update and the Defense Technical Information Center and served as an associate investigator for a longitudinal, multisite U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs research project called the NOISE Study. He currently serves as senior program manager and research audiologist for the Department of Defense Hearing Center of Excellence.
Hecht credits his family for his accomplishments and stated that he would not be where he is today without them. He met his wife, Guadalupe ’09, at Illinois State University. She was a Spanish education and journalism major. She supported him throughout the Au.D program, and they were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington and had their reception at The Chateau, April 17, 2010. They now have four children: Anthony, Graciela, Clarissa, and Emmalyn.
Even before Hecht met Guadalupe, he was a part of the Illinois State family. He comes from a Redbird Legacy family as his father, mother, uncle, aunt, cousin, and cousin-in-law all went to Illinois State.
The Communications Sciences and Disorders Department is proud to list Hecht as one of our alumni!
