Illinois State University was recently recognized as an AmeriSchool.
AmeriCorps members are eligible for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award after successful completion of a service term. Since the program started in 1994, AmeriCorps alumni have secured $3.3 billion in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards. As part of a national network, 80,000 AmeriCorps members improve communities each year. Focus areas include: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. After successfully completing their service, members are eligible for the education awards that can be used for college expenses or for repaying qualified student loans. Because civic engagement is a core value, Illinois State University is proud to be an AmeriSchool.
The Stevenson Center welcomes former AmeriCorps members to its Applied Community and Economic Development Fellows Program. The center also has a partnership that allows some current graduate students to serve as AmeriCorps members during their year on campus and/or their second-year internship. Stevenson Center AmeriCorps members have received education awards totaling over $213,000.
