Illinois State University College of the Fine Arts and School of Theatre and Dance are excited to announce and welcome back to campus dance performance alumnus Edward Rice ’04. Rice will visit campus February 18 through 21 and March 1 through 3 as part of a guest artist residency within the dance program.
During his visit, Rice will set a piece on a cast of dancers in Illinois State’s Dance Theatre Company. His piece, among other faculty pieces, will be showcased in the Spring Dance Concert April 26 through 29 in Westhoff Theatre.
In addition to rehearsals and teaching classes, Rice’s artist residency will include an informal showing of his new work with a Q&A immediately following on Saturday, March 3, from 1–2 p.m. in 116 Centennial East. This session is free and open to the public.
Rice holds a B.S. and an M.F.A in dance performance from Illinois State University and the University of Iowa, respectively. Performing professionally since 2007, Rice has worked with companies such as Brian Brooks Moving Company, Jody Oberfelder Dance Projects, Laura Peterson Choreography, Elephant Jane Dance, Alexandra Beller/Dances, Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More, NYC, among others. Beginning in 2012 Rice began working extensively with Third Rail Projects on a number of pieces including Then She Fell (performer), The Grand Paradise (performer, directing team), Learning Curve (directing team), Ghost Light (performer). He is also the company’s Business Manager. He has taught dance and performance both nationally & internationally and offers workshops through Third Rail Projects.
