E’mon Lauren, named Chicago’s first Youth Poet Laureate, will headline Café Soul at 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 17, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. Lauren uses poetry and playwriting to explore a philosophy of “hood womanism.” Her first chapbook, Commando was released by Haymarket Books in 2017.
Sponsored by Diversity Advocacy, Café Soul is an evening of café-style treats, poetry, and spoken word performed by students and special guests. All Illinois State students are invited to attend to learn more about Diversity Advocacy resources and services.
The event is part of Welcome Week activities.
