The Illinois State men’s basketball team will hold Social Media Night during its home game versus Ole Miss Saturday, December 8, at 7 p.m. One thousand fans will receive a Dan Muller Bitmoji Bobblehead and the Illinois State School of Communication’s Social Media Analytics Command Center (SMACC) will be showcased on the concourse.

The promotion is in recognition of the way in which Illinois State was able to schedule the game with Ole Miss, which competes in the Southeastern Conference, through Twitter. After the Redbirds didn’t receive a NCAA tournament bid during the 2016–2017 season, head coach Dan Muller posted on Twitter challenging Power 5 opponents to schedule games with Illinois State to improve their strength of schedule. Ole Miss was the only school to publicly respond via Twitter, showing the power of social media to bring awareness to the scheduling woes of mid-majors.
