New paper addresses professionalization of teacher education – AACTE member Jacob Easley offers a commentary on professionalizing teacher education, developed from the 2017 results of the 2016 American Association of State Colleges and Universities Teacher Education Task Force report that examines the status of teacher education in the U.S. AACTE’s Katrina Norfleet highlights the commentary, published in the current issue of Educational Renaissance journal.

Improving Professional Learning for Educators Through Micro-Credentials  Today, educators from all 50 states are taking steps toward earning one or more micro-credentials — having already earned more than 8,000 in the last three years. With more than 550 educator micro-credentials available on several platforms, enthusiasm for personalized, competency-based recognition has ticked up.

How NJ Hopes to Achieve a More Diverse Teacher Pool  The DOE has set a goal that by 2025, the diversity of New Jersey’s novice teacher pool (those in their first four years of teaching) reflect the diversity of New Jersey’s public school students. Four-thousand new teachers enter the profession each year in New Jersey, the Department said. (New Jersey 101.5)

Five-State Initiative to Boost Principals’ Knowledge of Special Education  The Council of Chief State School Officers has launched an effort with five states that is aimed at improving principals’ knowledge of supporting students with disabilities. (Education Week)
