Jean M. Miller, dean of Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts at Illinois State University, was named president of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD) at the organization’s annual conference at University of Texas-Austin on October 5. She will serve as president for three years, and then one year as past president.
ICFAD is a multinational alliance of fine arts executives representing higher education institutions committed to building excellence in leadership and advocacy for the arts. Other institutions represented in ICFAD include Virginia Commonwealth University, University of South Florida, Indiana University, University of Illinois, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and over 200 others in the United States and abroad.
Miller has been an active member of ICFAD for 11 years and has led initiatives on cultivation and stewardship, diversity and inclusion, leadership, and membership. She has helped plan conferences in Seattle; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Austin, Texas; Richmond, Virgina; and Las Vegas. She supported planning for ICFAD International Symposiums in Cuba and Barcelona.
Miller states, “Being elected by one’s peers and given ICFAD’s President role is an honor and privilege. To represent all kinds of institutions—research, comprehensive, large, medium and small, both public and private—is deeply gratifying. I am thrilled that this opportunity will also give Illinois State University and the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts greater visibility and attention in the coming years.”
