Recent events in our country serve as clear evidence that we are not doing enough to end acts of anti-blackness and racial hatred in the United States. The Illinois State University Alumni Association Board of Directors mourns the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many others.
Gladly We Learn and Teach. This is the motto that has guided Illinois State University since its inception in 1857. The Alumni Association Board of Directors represents over 220,000 living alumni that together exemplify our University motto. We are committed to listening and learning about systemic prejudice and taking action to ensure change.
The Alumni Association Board of Directors is forming a leadership action committee which will be comprised of board members and other alumni network leaders to explore how the Illinois State University Alumni Association can partner with the Alumni Engagement staff, University administration, faculty and students to increase diversity, equity and inclusion across campus and within the communities where we all live and work. It is important that we reflect upon our past and current experiences as we work together with our diverse campus and alumni leaders to create a better future.
