“Oh the places you’ll go” when you dive into a good book. As America celebrates the beloved Dr. Seuss and National Reading Month in March, Redbird alumni can continue to engage and learn throughout the year, thanks to the Alumni Association’s free online book club.
Join fellow alumni to read, discuss, and interact through lifelong learning topics. Topics include professional development, fiction, non-fiction, and continuing education options. All books provide a chance for enlightenment, growth, and, sometimes, opportunities to practice new ideas and skills. Participation is free for all alumni. Be sure to get a copy of the next book, High Conflict by Amanda Ripley, before discussions begin on March 18.
A bonus, whether alumni are able to read the book or not, all are invited to hear from the author herself on May 11 at 1 p.m. (CDT) for a special author talk webinar.
Why should you join?
There are three main reasons we hope you’ll be excited to participate in our alumni book club:
- Connect with fellow alumni no matter your location. Want to connect with intelligent, driven, and interesting people? Joining the book club will introduce you to Illinois State alumni across industries, generations, and geographies to help you improve your network.
- Advance your career. A professional book club enhances your career by making you more effective in areas critical to success like leadership, communication, and productivity.
- Reading is good for you! Did you know people who read at least seven business books per year earn over 230 percent more than people reading just one book per year? Or that reading improves your intelligence and reasoning ability and has been linked to reducing the chance of Alzheimer’s? Joining our book club will help you read more and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.
