Milner Library will host panel presentations on Tuesday, October 4, from 1–2:30 p.m. and Thursday, October 6, from 5:30–7 p.m. with the aim of assisting attendees in answering the question, “What can I do with a career in libraries?”
Panelists representing a variety of departments and specialties will describe their work, expound upon the paths they took to arrive at their current position, and give advice to those wishing to explore library work as a career. Attendees will learn about trajectories available with and without a master’s degree in library and information science (MLIS), as well as opportunities outside of libraries for those with education or experience in the field. Admissions officers from the MLIS programs at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Chicago State University will also be available to answer questions.
In lieu of a formal Q&A, attendees are invited to network with the panelists and enjoy light refreshments following the presentation portion of the event. This events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Rae-Anne Montague, program coordinator of Library and Information Science at Chicago State University and Katrina Hagler, director of recruitment and admissions at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s School of Information Sciences, will both give a brief overview of their programs following the panels. They will additionally be available to answer questions during the networking portion of the event.
