Each calendar year, individuals present in the U.S. on an immigration status are required to review and update their Sprintax Profile. This helps Illinois State University to determine the individual’s tax residency status for the new tax year. An individual’s tax residency (whether you are a nonresident or a resident for tax purposes) determines treaty eligibility, tax withholding and reporting requirements, and forms you need to complete and submit to the University. This Sprintax Blog post includes additional information about tax residency in the U.S.
Log in to review and update your Sprintax Profile. If you did not previously activate and set a password for your profile, contact taxoffice@IllinoisState.edu for a new activation email. Once in your profile, be sure to make updates within the 2023 tax module.
If you are an employee and have previously submitted a Form W-4 and a Form IL-W-4, new copies of these forms are not required to be submitted unless you wish to make changes to the forms or if your tax residency status is changing. Previously submitted copies of these forms can be found in the Document Exchange section of earlier tax year modules.
If you have not previously submitted any forms, sign and submit all generated forms. We do request all individuals sign and submit the updated Sprintax Tax Summary for tax year 2023. Forms may be submitted online via Document Exchange within the 2023 tax module or by dropping the forms off at the Payroll Office. Please upload copies of your visa, passport and I-20/DS-2019 if these forms have not yet been submitted.
We request that you complete the update to your profile by January 5, 2023. We also want to provide the link to the Sprintax Blog, which can be used as a resource for questions and information related to the nonresident tax system in the U.S. If you have any other questions, email taxoffice@IllinoisState.edu. Appointments with our office can be made through the linked website.
