Typically, people are asked what their resolutions are for the new year. Because we know that our colleagues are anything but typical, we decided to switch it up and ask a different question:  What word will you use to guide you through the new year? Here’s what some of our colleagues had to say:

Lisa Pride

Daniel Pierson ’81: Engagement. How do we grow our revenue and engagement? one helps the other as we pursue our mission.

Angelyn Anderson

Lisa Pride ’91: Consistency. Consistency is my word for the year because, without it, relationships fail and goals take longer to reach if they’re reached at all.

Dr. Angelyn Anderson ’95, M.S. ’97: Grace. We have to learn to give it to ourselves before we give it to others.

Richard Greenfield

Richard Greenfield ’17: Hopeful. I am hopeful that we will be moving back to a world of normalcy after the pandemic.

Zion Banks

Zion Banks ’85: Faith. Recently, I’ve been leaning on my twin towers of faith, which are gratitude and trust and this verse from Jeremiah is my mantra for 2023. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Dennis Banks

Dennis Banks ’85: Courage. Zion has always challenged us to acknowledge the new year with a word or phrase and, her cancer diagnosis has knocked me off of my square, real talk. So, keeping with her challenge and after much prayer, I knew what 2023 would require of me, courage. What that looks like is standing in my spouse’s gap during our journey, while somehow trusting the process versus trying to control it! I’m built for standing in her gap, I have spent 35 years training for this moment in time. Trusting the process when it involves your “everything” is a much different proposition, and extremely difficult!
