Illinois State University’s Milner Library will host Alex Hodges as the Bryant Jackson lecturer on Tuesday, April 18, at 10 a.m. on the library’s sixth floor. A reception will follow the lecture. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
Hodges is the director of the Monroe C. Gutman Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he is also faculty in education. As the co-chair of Harvard’s Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians, Hodges will share his professional observations in a talk titled “Leadership by Design: Where do we lead ourselves from here?” and will focus on the creation of library leadership practices that include collaboration from all perspectives in the face of constant change.
Prior to joining Harvard in 2017, Hodges was a tenured faculty member at American University in Washington, D.C., where he was associate director for instruction and research services, curriculum materials and education librarian, and affiliate associate professor of education in the AU School of Education. Hodges has also worked within library systems at the National Gallery of Art, the University of Maryland-College Park, and at the University of Florida. Outside of Harvard, Hodges is a doctoral candidate in educational technology at the University of Florida’s College of Education.
The Bryant Jackson Lectureship was established in 2003 by former University Librarian Joe Kraus to honor his associate university librarian. Over a 26-year period, Jackson held numerous positions in Milner Library. The lectureship recognizes his dedication, excellence, and leadership. An annual event, the lectureship features prominent speakers and scholars in the field of library and information science.
