Students from underrepresented populations interested in a paid summer internship are encouraged to apply for the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Internship Grant (EDI Grant) this week.
Requirements
Funds are limited and are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. To qualify for the grant student requirements are to be:
- Considered low-income (determined by your FAFSA for this academic year) and/or
- A first-generation student and/or
- A graduate from a high school considered rural (view a list of qualifying high schools and/or
- A student age 25 or older
Applications
Applications are due by Friday, May 12, and are available through Hire-A-Redbird using your ULID and password. Once in the system, select “Surveys” from the drop-down menu and select the EDI Grant. Students will also need to write an essay in 300 words or less explaining which of the eight Competencies for a Career-Ready Workforce (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2022) that they hope to build during their internship.
Omar Smith ’22 participated in an internship last year with the Normal Police Department and encourages others to obtain one to grow in their professional skills. “During my internship, I learned punctuality, along with really paying attention to the small details. The people who do this love what they do and truly try their best every day on the job,” he said.
