The Civil Service Council will feature a Civil Service employee at Illinois State University each month to highlight an exceptional colleague and the outstanding work being done on campus. This month, learn about and applaud Kelsie Riblet from the Orientation and Training Services Office of University College.
What is your position on campus and how long have you been with the University?
I am the program sssistant in the Orientation and Training Services Office. I have been at Illinois State for five years.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I love getting to talk to incoming students and their families. I know that transitioning to ISU from high school or from a different institution can be overwhelming, and being able to give students and families a little bit of peace, comfort, and reassurance about the process is what I love most about my job.
What are your hobbies or favorite pastimes?
I enjoy watching my kids in their activities, coaching cheerleading, volunteering at my church, and baking.
What else would you like others to know about you or your time at ISU?
I hear over and over again from incoming students how amazing everyone on campus is and I couldn’t agree more—I feel so lucky to get to work with the best people all across campus!
More about Riblet from Corey Burgess, associate director of the Orientation and Training Services Office:
Kelsie is a phenomenal multitasker and makes difficult projects looks easy. She is the first person that most incoming students and families interact with, and whether she is helping them on the phone, via email, or when they arrive to check-in for their orientation, Kelsie is always friendly, welcoming, and helps everyone feel comfortable at ISU. Recently, Kelsie has been promoted for her additional responsibilities in creating smooth transitions to college for both transfer and first-time in college students. She is a true joy to work with for many reasons, including her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor. Kelsie is also an alum of ISU and represents our values in her daily work.
