The Department of Sociology and Anthropology (SOA) student ambassador program began during the spring 2020 semester with the goals of engaging with our students as peer mentors and supporting their own professional development as they represent the department at events and activities. We are thrilled to introduce you to our newest cohort of SOA Ambassadors for this academic year.

Imaad Alam, Anthropology

Imaad Alam is a senior anthropology major and a a political science minor. He also serves as the president of SOSA which is the RSO for students interested in anthropology on campus. He is very excited to serve in this role and to help those interested in the major.

Carley Reilly, Anthropology

Carley Reilly is a senior anthropology major and classical studies minor. In addition to being an ambassador, she is the public relations officer for the Endurance Dance Team. She is eager to help students with questions about anthropology, classes, career paths, and anything ISU.

Xavier Mancias, Sociology

Xavier Mancias is a junior sociology major. Having changed his major to sociology after arriving at ISU, he is aware of how rewarding and informative sociology can be as a student, especially during COVID. He said sociology revived his interest in academic pursuits. As an ambassador he wants to help students learn about sociology, providing a chance for them to learn about this field.

Jayden Wilburn-Johnson, Sociology

Jayden Wilburn-Johnson is a junior at Illinois State University and a sociology major. He is part of the Student Government Association and Black Student Union at ISU. He is also a teaching assistant for SOC 112 in the fall and a Career Ambassador who helps students build their professional portfolio. Learning about different cultures and meeting new people have always been his passion. Sociology has given him life skills no other major could offer. The study of social institutions and how they operate in today’s world is valuable information he believes everyone should have knowledge about.
