The world language teacher education program in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLC) welcomed 50 language teachers from throughout Illinois to campus on Saturday, September 23, for a day filled with networking and sharing ideas for effective and engaging language classes.
The workshop is part of a larger vision of faculty in LLC to build a World Languages Resource Center to facilitate greater collaboration and innovation among language teachers in the state. World Language education in the U.S. has paradoxically suffered from lagging enrollments, even as demand for bilingual skills increases in our multilingual society. To address this need, Illinois is set to increase the high school graduation requirement from one year to two in 2025.
