Illinois State University proudly celebrates the growth of the Big Red Marching Machine (BRMM), now resonating with nearly 400 talented students, a testament to the thriving Redbird band and arts community.
Under the guidance of BRMM Director Mack Wood, the band has launched a fundraising campaign to help meet the need for new and upgraded instruments. The band is looking for private support not only to help cover upgraded instruments, but also to secure funding for travel opportunities, additional storage for instruments, and uniforms.
Contributions to the campaign, regardless of size, directly aid the band and help continue this beloved legacy and tradition at Illinois State University. Currently, the band has a goal of raising a minimum of $10,000.
“It has been exciting to see how much support the Big Red Marching Machine has received from our friends, families, fans, and alumni. We currently have 85 people who have jumped in to support us, and that is tremendous support. I know we have more people out there that are planning to support our efforts as well—a HUGE thank-you to all who have shown support,” said Dr. Wood.
Supporters are invited to join this harmonious journey! The goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000 by November 30 with the option to support your favorite section. Every gift, big or small, enriches student experiences and fosters a deep sense of belonging among Illinois State University’s talented musicians.
Redbird Janet Kilgus ’70, M.S. ’77, sets an inspiring example. Kilgus has issued a challenge to the Redbird community in honor of her memories as a former marching band member. As a student, Janet benefitted from using a university provided instrument to pursue her passion as part of the Big Red Marching Machine. Once 100 donors give to the campaign, she will unlock a generous $2,000 to ensure today’s Redbirds have an opportunity to make their own BRMM memories.
