Each year Housing Services honors a select number of outstanding resident/community assistants (RA/CAs) who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to leadership and academic excellence. Recipients of the award receive up to $500 in financial support. This year, five students were selected for the RA/CA Academic Scholarship.
Joseph Paveleck is a community assistant (CA) for Cardinal Court. Noted for his exemplary leadership in his CA position, Paveleck displays all the characteristics of an excellent recipient of the 2023-24 RACA Academic Scholarship.
“I think that obtaining this scholarship will motivate me to continue working hard in this role and in other positions I will hold in the future”, said Paveleck. “I have always been a proponent of the belief that working hard pays off, and receiving this scholarship is a testament to that.”
As a CA, Paveleck has planned and executed multiple successful programs that have had a positive impact on the Cardinal Court community.
“Early on in the semester while on-call, I was with a CA who was new to the role,” Paveleck explained when asked to describe a notable experience as a CA. “When a situation occurred that we needed to handle, I took charge and led the new CA through the situation. Afterward we debriefed and reflected on what we could have done differently. I believe that the scholarship’s significance is evidenced by my compassion and leadership toward others.”
Paveleck explains that he couldn’t have gotten to where he is today without the support of friends, family, and others who have mentored him along the way.
“My parents have always been extremely loving and supportive toward me and my goals. For as long as I remember, I have had a knack for helping others, which is something that the CA role allows me to do,” said Paveleck. “That knack is something both of my parents instilled in me. Even though they are not with me every day, they still push me to be the best version of myself that I can be and to strive for greatness.“
