College of Applied Science and Technology Dean Chad McEvoy has named Dr. Noelle M. Selkow as director of the School of Kinesiology and Recreation, effective July 1, 2024.
Selkow is currently serving as the director of Illinois State University’s Graduate School. A professor of athletic training, she also served as graduate program director. She and the admissions team were able to transition to a new application software and foster personalized communication with prospective students. In that role, she also helped maintain program accreditation, collaborated on new graduate and certificate programs, and updated policy and procedures.
“We are thrilled to have Noelle Selkow join our college leadership team to help move forward the amazing work taking place in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation. Dr. Selkow’s passion for our students, faculty, and staff, combined with her leadership experience in KNR and the Graduate School, make her the perfect person to lead the School into its next chapter,” said Dr. McEvoy.
Selkow’s appointment makes her the first permanent woman school director for Kinesiology and Recreation, a unit with a long history of excellence in promoting physical education, exercise, and sport opportunities for women. The last permanent woman leader was Dr. Marlene Mawson, who served as department chair from 1990-1999 for the department formerly known as Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (HPERD).
“I am excited to be named the next director for the School of Kinesiology and Recreation. The faculty and staff strive for excellence and I am eager to lead this team forward in program growth, research, community engagement and student success,” said Selkow.
Selkow joined Illinois State University in 2011 as an assistant professor. She received a Ph.D. in sports medicine and a master’s degree in athletic training at the University of Virginia, and a bachelor’s degree from Mount Union College (now the University of Mount Union).
