The first event for the spring International Seminar Series is now open for registration. All events will be presented simultaneously in person in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center, and online through Zoom. The discussion will be held on January 31, noon-1 p.m. These events are free and open to the public. RSVP is required for in-person attendance.
During the spring 2024 International Seminar Series, the Center for Civic Engagement, the Office of International Engagement, and the Office of Sustainability are exploring how Illinois State University can engage with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to not only contribute to the global effort but also to demonstrate our campus’ global impact. SDGs are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. The most ambitious and arguably important global agreements in recent history, the SDGs cover a wide range of complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. How we address them will require transformations in how societies and economies function and how we interact with our planet.
Session one is titled “SDG Implementation on a college campus,” and will introduce attendees to the SDGs and explore how working toward SDGs can be mutually beneficial for a university and the global community. We will highlight the roles of research, teaching and learning, and community engagement in implementing the SDGs.
This discussion will feature:
- Christine Bruckner–Assistant Director at the Office of Sustainability, Illinois State University
- Dr. Roopa Rawjee–Executive Director at the Office of International Engagement, Illinois State University
- Dr. Rachel Waring-Sparks–Assistant Director of Assessment at the Office of Civic Engagement, Illinois State University
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. CST. In-person RSVP is required so that an accurate food count will be available. Alternatively, you can also join the event via this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
