Illinois Shakespeare Festival (ISF) Artistic Director John C. Stark recently named three Illinois State University students as recipients of the Sutter Family Scholarship. Created by Festival patron Craig Sutter in memory of his mother, G. Jean Sutter, and his father, H. Everett Sutter, the Sutter Family Shakespeare Scholarship provides support for a student majoring in acting at Illinois State. Sutter Scholars study theatre and take part in an internship with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival as a member of the professional acting company.
Junior Sage Brown and sophomores Devin Creighton and Andrew Conrad Faber received Sutter awards this spring. The award is retained throughout their Illinois State University career. Brown, Creighton, and Faber join current Sutter scholars Carvel Price and Riley Partin.
Sage Brown is a graduate of Bloomington High School. He is a junior acting major and is certified in several areas of stage combat. Brown recently portrayed Uncle Louis in Lost in Yonkers directed by Illinois State University alum Jane Lynch. Other roles include Equus, Good Kids, and The Thanksgiving Play. In spring 2024, he will appear in two mainstage School of Theatre and Dance productions, Space Girl and A Midsummer Night’s Dream where he will portray Nick Bottom. Brown will be a member of the 2024 ISF acting company.
Devin Creighton of Naperville is a graduate of Neuqua Valley High School. She is a sophomore acting and theatre education major at Illinois State University. She has appeared in three University productions, The Colored Museum, Equus, and How to Clean Your Room. This spring, she is cast in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Creighton will be a member of the 2025 ISF acting company.
Andrew Conrad Faber of Huntley, Illinois is a sophomore acting major at Illinois State University. He recently portrayed Victor Frankenstein in Frankenstein and understudied the role of Dysart in Equus. This spring he appears as Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Faber will join the 2025 ISF acting company.
Brown, Creighton, and Faber are also members of the cast of Bard in a Box, the Illinois Shakespeare Festival touring group. Bard in a Box performs an abbreviated version of Romeo and Juliet at middle and high schools in the Bloomington-Normal area.
