The second event for the Spring International Seminar Series is now open for registration. All events will be presented simultaneously in-person in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center and online through Zoom. The discussion will be held on Wednesday February 28, 2024, noon-1 p.m. These events are free and open to the public. RSVP is required for in-person attendance.
During the spring 2024 International Seminar Series, the Center for Civic Engagement, the Office of International Engagement, and the Office of Sustainability are exploring how Illinois State University can engage with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to not only contribute to the global effort, but also to demonstrate our campus’ global impact. SDGs are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges by 2030. The most ambitious and arguably important global agreements in recent history, the SDGs cover a wide range of complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. How we address them will require transformations in how societies and economies function and how we interact with our planet.
Session two is titled “What do we know about SDG alignment so far at ISU.” It will explore Illinois State courses, research and scholarship, and community engagement data through the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session will provide attendees with a broad overview of how the institution is currently addressing and preparing students to address the SDGs.
The features speakers will be:
- Christine Bruckner, assistant director, Office of Sustainability
- Dr. Rachel Waring-Sparks, assistant director of assessment, Center for Civic Engagement
Lunch will be provided before the event at 11:45 a.m. In-person RSVP is required so that an accurate food count will be available. Alternatively, you can also join the event via this Zoom link. Advance registration is not necessary for online attendance.
Anyone with questions, concerns, or regarding any accommodation to participate fully, should contact Emmy Buonomo at ecbuono@IllinoisState.edu or call the Office of International Engagement at (309) 438-1651. Allow sufficient time to arrange the accommodation, thank you.
