Each year, University Housing Services has the privilege of awarding an employee scholarship to a student employed by University Housing who has demonstrated dependability, efficiency, and excellence in providing quality services. This year, Shreya Keesara is the recipient of the award.
Keesara has been a student supervisor for night operations for over four semesters, supervising a shift of up to six people on any given night. Well-respected by her peers and supervisors, Keesara has worked hard to ensure that she fosters a safe and welcoming atmosphere during night hours. Her work responsibilities include training nighttime team members on emergency procedures and overseeing the student workers.
“This scholarship represents more than financial assistance; it is a recognition of my dependability, efficiency, and excellence in service within the University Housing community,” says Keesara.
When asked to recount an experience that signifies the impact of this scholarship on her life, Keesara cites her ability to balance school and work duties as a major role during her time working with Housing Services.
“Balancing work commitments at University Housing with my coursework was becoming increasingly challenging,” Keesara said. “However, I was determined to excel in both areas. When I learned I had received the scholarship, it was a validation of my efforts and a reminder that perseverance in the face of adversity is rewarding.”
Keesara notes that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the help of her family encouraging her.
“My father has been a pivotal role model in my journey,” she said. “Since the start of my college career, he has offered unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement, helping me navigate both academic challenges and personal growth.”
