Preparations are underway for the newly created Summer IT Academy. Recognizing the diverse backgrounds and varying levels of preparedness among its student body, the School of IT is undertaking this innovative initiative to ensure equal opportunities for all. Dr. Traci Carte, director of the School of Information Technology states, “We are excited at the prospect of helping our incoming students feel more prepared and fueling their passion for IT.”
Some students arrive with prior experience, having participated in workshops, competitions, or Advanced Placement (AP) computer science courses. Others have not had those experiences, but possess a genuine curiosity for IT that drives them. To effectively bridge this gap in preparedness, the Summer IT Academy will introduce a one-week residential coding camp designed to ensure incoming students’ readiness for majoring in IT. This on-campus, residential program is geared toward incoming students without programming experience in languages such as Java, Python, or C++ and will provide them the opportunity to experience campus life and prepare to launch their academic journey with the School of Information Technology at Illinois State.
Summer IT Academy will take place on the Illinois State University’s campus June 9-14, 2024. Registration closes on May 15, 2024.
