Dr. Duriel E. Harris received the Stephen E. Henderson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry from the African American Literature and Culture Society in May during the American Literature Association’s 34th Annual Conference.
This award recognizes authors for their achievements in literature and poetry. Past recipients include Sam Cornish, Ouincy Troupe, E. Ethelbert Miller, Sherley Anne Williams, Clarence Major, Askia Touré, Charles Johnson, Al Young, Marilyn Nelson, Nathaniel Mackey, Elizabeth Alexander, Cecil Giscombe, Ed Roberson, Harryette Mullen, Michael S. Harper, Marita Golden, Evie Shockley, Fred Moten, Jamaica Kincaid, Giovanni Singleton, John Edgar Wideman, Frances Smith Foster, Tyronne Williams, and Everett Hoagland.
Harris is a professor in the Department of English and the editor of Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora.
