Every month, the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Council highlights an A/P staff member through a series of questions as another way for the Illinois State University community to connect. This month, readers get to know Megan Taylor, academic advisor in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation (KNR).
Job title/Position: Academic Advisor, School of Kinesiology and Recreation
Job duties: I mostly work with students in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation to assist them in academic planning. I’m also part of the Academic Advising Council’s Mentoring and Connections committee where we facilitate mentoring opportunities for new advisors and organize opportunities for the advising community to connect with one another.
How long have you been an employee at ISU?: This is my ninth year at ISU. Prior to my current role in KNR, I was an academic advisor in University College for seven years.
What do you love most about working at ISU?: I’ve been grateful to work alongside great colleagues, who have made coming to work fun. Getting to work with students is also something I love about my job. Although it has a cyclical nature, no two days are the same in advising. And I love the variety this job offers!
What is one fact about yourself that might surprise people?: I have climbed the highest mountain in the Lower 48 (Mount Whitney).
When you’re not working, what are you most likely doing? You can find me spending time with my husband and two kiddos. Bloomington-Normal is so family-friendly, and we love exploring new places and activities on the weekends. I also enjoy going for walks, attempting to keep plants alive, and listening to podcasts.
What is your favorite spot on campus? Has to be the Quad! I love walking and getting some fresh air on my lunch break or wellness time.
What quote most inspires you? Why: “Bloom where you are planted.” I like this quote because it’s a reminder to focus on the present and doing your best with what you have.
