Members of the Illinois State University Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) have much to celebrate after receiving recognition from the headquarters of the international honor society.

The Illinois State University chapter was applauded for earning the distinguished Highest Honors designation for the 2023-24 school year. This distinction is the top tier in the three levels of recognition for the parent organization’s Chapter Honor Roll program.

“The honor roll program is an incentive to keep the chapters active and engaged. It allows members to take full advantage of all BGS has to offer. Because of this honor, we have the opportunity to award a scholarship for BGS members,” said Dr. Tamra Connor, advisor of Beta Gamma Sigma and associate dean for accreditation and operations for the College of Business.

The ISU chapter received a Highest Honors certificate and was recognized at the National Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) conference in April 2024.

The student organization has been at ISU since 1982 and has inducted thousands of business students in their 42 years on campus. A student must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in the top 10% of their class or a graduate student in the top 20% of their class after completing half of their program to receive a membership invitation from Beta Gamma Sigma.

The student organization has three main pillars: professionalism, social, and service. The events they organize or participate in are focused on those pillars to engage students with programs at the College of Business, ISU, and the larger Bloomington-Normal community. Their main service partner is Junior Achievement where they help teach local students from kindergarten through high school important real-world concepts in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness.

When asked about Beta Gamma Sigma’s goals for this year, Connor said: “The goal is to continue the trend and receive Highest Honors for the fourth straight year.”
