The Civil Service Council will feature a Civil Service employee at Illinois State University each month to highlight an exceptional colleague and the outstanding work being done on campus. This month, learn about and applaud College of Arts and Sciences Administrative Aide, Denice Masters.
What is your position on campus, and how long have you been with the University?
I am the Administrative Aide in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office. I have been with CAS for four and a half years, starting in June 2020.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I really enjoy being a part of the ISU community. It is rewarding to be part of a group that works together to give students a strong foundation and great start to their journey in life.
The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office is a wonderful place to work. I work with a supportive and caring group of people.
What are your hobbies or favorite pastimes?
Taking classes has become a big part of my life. I love to spend time with my family and enjoy taking road trips with my significant other, Russ. The things I enjoy most are photography, hiking, outdoor concerts, biking, and taking my dog Bella for a walk.
What else would you like others to know about you or your time at ISU?
I started taking classes at Heartland Community College in January 2020 to complete my associate degree in art (May 2024). I did not intent to go beyond the two-year degree but working at ISU has given me the option to continue. I am working towards my interpersonal communication degree with a mass media minor and an English writing minor.
I live in Fairbury and previously worked for Prairie Central Schools for 21 years. I have three children and three grandchildren.
More about Masters from Robyn Schuline, business administrative associate:
Denice has been a valued team member of the College of Arts and Sciences Office for nearly four years, performing numerous tasks and essential responsibilities that include supporting and assisting 19 departments, schools, and programs in the College, as well as the entire University community. Her outstanding work ethic, unwavering commitment to excellence, professionalism, attention to detail, and top-notch organizational skills ensure that the college office is a productive and efficient workspace. I honestly do not know what we would do without her.
Denice provides both a personal touch, and when appropriate, humor to the work environment which helps create an inclusive office. Denice’s positive attitude definitely helps brighten the day for those of us who work with her. She can be counted on to willingly assume additional tasks as needed, and she provides assistance and kindness to anyone in need. She is truly a one-of-a-kind individual who is a great asset to her friends, co-workers, college, and university. ISU is better because Denice works here. She is an example of a true and forever Redbird.
